Dear Friends,
I want to thank all of you who supported me in the race for Utah County Sheriff. Although we didn not make it as far as we had hoped, we did make incredible progress in many areas. To those who opened and read our emails thank you. We noticed a strong correlation between the percentage of those who did read our emails and spoke with me at the "Meet and Greets" and those delegates who didn not vote for the incumbent. Unfortunately only about 30% of the delegates got out to meet me or read about the issues facing the Sheriff's Office. Consequently, many of the delegates at the convention may have been uninformed as to the issues in the Sheriff's Office that are so in need of change.
We did all that we could with the resources at our disposal and are very grateful for all that you did to spread the word. I am also grateful to the many supporters within the Sheriff's Office who quietly supported me and offered encouragement. I would like them to know that I appreciate what they gave, considering the necessity to protect their careers.
Now the good news, we have already begun to affect change. The newest program, the Utah Defendant Offender Workforce Development Taskforce, that Sheriff Tracy announced last week is one that I have been promoting for some time and highlighted during my campaign. The organization itself has been contacting the Sheriff's Office for over two years. I am grateful that our efforts to bring it to the forefront have finally paid off. It is a step in the right direction.
My hope is that the exposure of unethical practices, out of control spending and the need a programs focus in the Sheriff's Office will continue to encourage change in the Sheriff's Office. I am especially enthusiastic that Doug Whitney will serve as a County Commissioner. Doug and I had many discussions about the need for change in the Sheriff's Office and he often expressed his understanding and concern for the problems that motivated my run for office. Thank you Doug for your encouragement throughout the campaign.
Thank you again, all of you, for your support and for taking the time to learn about the issues and join my fight for greater equity, fiscal responsibility, and responsible leadership. I will continue advocating for youth programs, drug awareness, rehabilitation programs for inmates, and for merit-based promotion practices with the continued support of many fine leaders and deputies in the Sheriff's Office.
With Sincere Appreciation,
Robin Wall
